PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide registration calculation between three-dimensional (3D) scans based on two-dimensional (2D) scan data from a 3D scanner.SOLUTION: A method for measuring and registering a three-dimensional (3D) coordinate includes the steps of: measuring a 3D coordinate using a 3D scanner 20 in a first registration position; measuring a two-dimensional (2D) coordinate using the 3D scanner by projecting a beam of light in a plane onto an object while the 3D scanner is moving from the first registration position to a second registration position; measuring the 3D coordinate using the 3D scanner in the second registration position; and determining the correspondence between targets in the first and second registration positions while the 3D scanner is moving between the second registration position and the third registration position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
