The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a retort for a nitriding furnace. In the nitriding furnace, the metal workpiece is heat-treated in a predetermined atmosphere. The retort is manufactured from stainless steel. The present invention also relates to a nitriding furnace retort. The invention also relates to a nitriding furnace having a retort according to the invention. According to the present invention, in the operation state of the nitriding furnace, at least the surface of the retort that contacts in the predetermined atmosphere is pickled with a peering agent. After pickling, the surface is preferably polished with an electrolyte in a galvanic bath. Thereafter, the polished surface of the retort is passivated with nitric acid.
