A method for preparing a capacitor grade tantalum powder, comprising the step of adding solid tantalum nitride when reducing potassium fluorinated tantalate with sodium. The method increases the nitrogen content in the tantalum powder and at the same time improves the electrical performance of the tantalum powder. Specific capacity increases and leakage current and loss improve. It also improves the qualification rate of anode and capacitor products. The method is characterized in that the nitrogen in the tantalum nitride diffuses between the particles of tantalum powder with virtually no loss, so that the nitrogen content is accurate and controllable.
