Systems, apparatus, and methods for triggering depth sensors and / or limiting bandwidth and / or maintaining privacy are presented. By limiting the use of depth sensors simply when the optical image is insufficient, the power of the mobile device is saved. Further, bandwidth is saved and privacy is maintained by not communicating unnecessary or undesired information by reducing the size of the optical image to only that portion of the image necessary to detect the object.
