A method of redirecting a search query from an untrusted search engine to a trusted search engine discloses a software application used to prevent personal information from being collected by an untrusted search engine. The software application obtains the search query URL corresponding to the search query to the desired search engine. The search query is compared to multiple unreliable URL patterns provided to determine if the desired search engine is reliable. If the search query URL is not found in multiple untrusted URL patterns, the search is allowed to proceed. If the search query URL is found in multiple untrusted URL patterns, the search query is redirected to a trusted search engine. At least one trusted URL pattern is provided to allow the search to be redirected to a trusted search engine.
