Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer-readable media for routing Diameter messages. According to one method, the method occurs at a Diameter routing node. The method includes receiving Diameter routing information from a Diameter routing controller (DRC) via a software-defined network (SDN) related interface, where the Diameter routing information is determined using application layer information. The method also includes routing the Diameter message using the Diameter routing information.
