Method and apparatus for object tracking and segmentation via background tracking

The method of tracking an object is initiated by establishing an object (12) in the current frame. Thereafter, a background region (202) containing the object is established in the current frame. Next, the position of the object (12) in the next frame is estimated. Propagation of the background region (202) is then specified. Finally, the object is segmented from its background based on the propagation of the background area, thereby enabling tracking of the object from frame to frame.
