System and method for capturing digital images using multiple short exposures

Methods, devices, and computer program products for image sensors having overlapping exposure brackets that support multiple short exposures are described. In one aspect, a method for capturing an image is disclosed. The method includes capturing a first image having a first exposure time on a first subset of pixels on the image sensor. The method includes simultaneously capturing a plurality of images having a second exposure time on a second subset of pixels on the image sensor, wherein the second exposure time is shorter than the first exposure time. The method further includes steps. The method further includes combining a plurality of images having a second exposure time to make a second image. Finally, the method includes the step of combining the first image and the second image.
