Methods and systems are provided for organizing and managing file systems on a content addressable object store. User content is associated with a record containing a content hash associated with an address in the content addressable object store. The content hash is a function of the user content and is determined by dividing the file into data objects, generating a pointer tree of the hash on the data object, and calculating the hash of the root of the pointer tree . Records, pointer trees, and files are stored in the object store. Reading user content from the object store includes reading the record, retrieving the content hash, discovering the root of the pointer tree, descending the leaf of the pointer tree to generate a hash of the data object associated with the user content And reassembling the data object sequentially in the file data.
