PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To photograph a stereoscopic image which can correspond to a request of various users during appreciation.SOLUTION: A stereoscopic image pickup device includes: a plurality of imaging means for imaging a subject from a plurality of different viewpoints; convergence angle setting means for setting a convergence angle between the plurality of imaging means; subject distance measuring means for measuring a distance from the imaging means to the subject; and a control section for performing first photographing and second photographing by using the imaging means. The convergence angle setting means sets a first convergence angle so that a parallax amount which a point in a first distance which is the nearest to the imaging means among distances measured by the subject distance measuring means forms on an imaging face is equal to or less than a prescribed first threshold in the first photographing, and sets a second convergence angle different from the first convergence angle so that a parallax change amount which a plurality of points on the subject in a second distance farther than the first distance among the distances measured by the subject distance measuring means form on the imaging face is equal to or more than a prescribed second threshold in the second photographing.
