A test unit for quantitative analysis of a contact pattern and a method for quantitative analysis are provided. The test unit comprises an optoelectronic sensor for imaging the image of the contact pattern paint on the tooth face of the gear. Furthermore, the test unit comprises a control unit which is arranged for determining and preserving the primary distribution of the optical parameters of the contact pattern paint over the tooth flank from the first image. This is imaged before the tooth flank is subjected to the test load. After the tooth flank is subjected to the test load, the second image is imaged and the second distribution of the optical parameters is determined. The control unit is arranged to perform a quantitative analysis of the contact pattern on the tooth surface by determining a deviation between the first distribution and the second distribution of optical parameters.(FIG.
