The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sheet for a thin sheet package, wherein the sheet is stamped out of the metal strip by at least one punching die. At least one part of the sheet contour is produced by stream cutting. The method is carried out such that the sheet is held stationary on the metal strip. The thin plate is punched out of the metal strip by a punching die. Stream cutting produces clean cutting edges that do not require reworking of the sheet. An apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention comprises a stream cutting unit upstream of a punch press having at least one stream cutting head. A wide variety of sheet metal contours are cut from the metal strip with high accuracy using said stream cutting unit.
