PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet thickness measuring device and a sheet thickness measuring method which can easily obtain an average value of thickness of a sheet.SOLUTION: A ceramic green sheet 3 is put in water in a container 5, and an amount of change &Dgr;H in height of liquid level at that time is obtained. Then, an increment of the water is obtained from the amount of change &Dgr;H in height of the liquid level. Also, an average thickness of the ceramic green sheet 3 is obtained from the increment of the water, and the width of the ceramic green sheet 3 and the length of a conveyance path in the water (that is, area).
