PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the residual ends of a needle thread and a bobbin thread.SOLUTION: A button sewing machine includes: a needle plate through which a needle hole 51 is formed; a holding part 30 for holding an object to be sewn and a button on the upper side of the needle plate; a needle vertical movement mechanism for performing the needle location of a sewing needle 11; a shuttle mechanism 40 for capturing a needle thread and entangling a bobbin thread with it; and a thread cutting device 60. The thread cutting device includes: a thread cutting knife 66 provided in an arrangement such that a cutting edge can be brought into contact with a needle thread U and a bobbin thread D passing through the needle hole at a position adjacent to the needle hole 51 on the upper surface of the needle plate; a thread handling mechanism 67 for bringing the needle thread U and the bobbin thread D passing through the needle hole to the cutting edge side of the thread cutting knife; a knife cover 70 for covering the cutting edge of the thread cutting knife from the needle thread and the bobbin thread; and a release mechanism 71 for moving the thread cutting knife or the knife cover to release the covered state of the thread cutting knife.
