PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multistage flash type sea water desalination apparatus that can recover a large amount of waste heat from a high temperature gas furnace and greatly increase an amount of freshwater produced.SOLUTION: A sea water desalination apparatus comprises a heating unit 10 for heating raw sea water by heat exchanging with waste heat from a power generation system, a heat recovery unit 20 for subjecting the sea water heated in the heating unit 10 to flash evaporation to obtain fresh water and recovering the latent heat of evaporation by raw sea water, and a heat releasing unit 30 for subjecting residual heated sea water from the heat recovery unit 20 to flash evaporation to obtain fresh water and releasing the latent heat of evaporation to the outside. The heating unit 10 includes a plurality of heating sections 11a, 11b, 11c...linked in series so that the temperature lowers stepwise. The heat recovery unit 20 includes heat recovery sections 21a, 21b 21c...each having one or more flash evaporation chambers for receiving the sea water heated in each heating section and subjecting it to flash evaporation. Each heating section and each heat recovery section are linked in the heat exchange relation.
