PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion device for a bridge, endurable against large impact force, being high in water cutoff performance, hardly deteriorating, and capable of damping horizontal force in an earthquake.SOLUTION: An expansion device 30 for a bridge comprises: a face plate 31 installed in an upper part of an expansion spacing Y2 formed between bridge girders 10 and 20, mounted to a notch part 24 of the bridge girder 20 and extending horizontally; and a cover plate 33 mounted to a notch part 14 of the bridge girder 10 and extending horizontally. The face plate 31 is formed in a single thick plate shape, and straddles the expansion spacing Y2, and is arranged in a state of forming an expansion clearance S1 between its end surface 31a and an end surface of the notch part 14 of the bridge girder 10. The cover plate 33 is arranged on the upper side of a tip part 31b of the face plate 31 so as to straddle the expansion clearance S1. In this expansion device 30 for a bridge, a hydraulic damper 32 expandable in the bridge axial direction is interposed between the end surface 31a of the face plate 31 and the end surface of the notch part 14 of the bridge girder 10.
