PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base material for exterior material construction in which workability of an exterior material can be made more superior, and provide a construction method of the exterior material.SOLUTION: A base material 1 for exterior material construction of the present invention comprises: an attachment 3 fixed to a wall surface 7 of a building frame; and metal furring strip bodies 5, 6 extending in the longitudinal direction D parallel to the wall surface 7, fixed to the attachment 3 and having an exterior material 11 fixed at the surface side. A height L of fixing parts 5c, 6d, 6e in the metal furring strip bodies 5, 6 is equalized to the height L from the wall surface 7 to first and second supporting parts 3d, 3e in the attachment 3.
