A method for cementing an underground formation is to provide a cement composition comprising cementitious material, aqueous base fluid, nanoparticles, synthetic clay, and thixotropy modifier, wherein the solid material is the total weight of the cement composition. From about 0% to about 40% by weight of the composition, introducing a cement composition into the underground layer, and allowing the cement composition to set in the underground layer.
