Perceptual-based predictive tracking for head-mounted displays

The invention relates in particular to a method comprising determining a first three-dimensional orientation of a head mounted display, the head mounted display comprising one or more inertial measurement units ("IMUs") and one or more markers on an outside surface of the head mounted display; detecting a movement of the head mounted display; obtaining, from the one or more IMUs, first data representative of the detected movement of the head mounted display; obtaining, from one or more cameras external to the head mounted display, second data representative of the detected movement of the head mounted display based on a movement determined by the one or more cameras of the one or more markers; predicting a second three-dimensional orientation of the head mounted display based on both the first data representative of the detected movement and the second data representative of the detected movement; and generating a rendered image corresponding to the predicted second three-dimensional orientation of the head mounted display for presentation by the head mounted display and to a corresponding apparatus.
