PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a series of compositions, methods, kits, articles and species associated primarily with the diagnosis and/or treatment of cell proliferation, specifically cancer.SOLUTION: This invention relates to: a polypeptide fragment of Fas-associated Factor 1, which bonds to ubiquitinated proteins or valosin-containing proteins; and a method for treating a subject having a cancer characterized by the aberrant expression of MUC1, comprising administering to the subject an antibody or antigen-binding fragment thereof in an amount effective to ameliorate the cancer.
