Provided is a process for producing a random structure GIC which can easily obtain flaked graphite having less graphene layered state regularity by peeling treatment and less number of laminated layers. Preparing an alkali metal-GIC in which alkali metal is intercalated between the graphene layers, and bringing the polar protic solvent into contact with the alkali metal-GIC under non-oxidizing atmosphere.
