A deformable additive release component (1) for a smoking article is disclosed, comprising an aperture (8) through which additive may be released, an outer wall section (2), an inner wall section (3) that defines a chamber (10) within which the additive is held and at least one channel (5) between the inner and outer wall sections to allow airflow through the component, wherein the component is configured to transmit a compressive force applied to the outer wall section to the inner wall section and to open the aperture.
