Summary "method for controlling the concentration of water treatment composition in an aqueous system and method for controlling the growth of at least one scale material in an aqueous system" describes a method and composition for controlling the growth of scale material such as as surface oxidation in aqueous systems using a labeled (fluorescent) polymer. The labeled polymer may be a fluorescent polymer having at least one fluorescent monomer unit derived from a fluorophore having at least one terminal end comprising an olefinic group. The method for controlling the growth of at least one fouling material in an aqueous system may include the steps of adding the labeled polymer to the aqueous system to be treated, fluorometrically monitoring the concentration of the labeled polymer, and adjusting, where necessary, the polymer concentration. and the proportionately used water treatment compound or compounds effective to control the growth of at least one scale material in the aqueous system. adjusting ph prior to fluorescence signal determination can be employed to increase fluorophore sensitivity and minimize background interference. 1/1
