Abstract Method of Determining Gal-1-p Concentrations in an Early Blood Sample from Newborns A method of diagnosing galactosemia in newborn blood samples by determining gal-1-p concentrations prior to 5 to 7 days of life. Removal of interfering compounds allows a more specific and therefore more accurate determination of gal-1-p levels in screening newborns for galactosemia using mass spectrometry. This is of great importance when investigating samples from children who have not yet reached a steady state of gal-1- p (ie, before 5 to 7 days of life). 1/1
