The present disclosure relates to a system and method for monitoring the use of a respiratory drug delivery device. Regular use of a respiratory medication delivery device at intervals prescribed by a physician may be critical to an individual's health. The system described herein is configured to monitor the use of a respiratory drug delivery device such that manual monitoring of a patient's adherence to a dosing schedule by a physician, for example, is not required. Monitoring the use of the drug delivery device may allow the clinician to judge the individual's adherence to the dosing schedule and encourage increased adherence. Increased adherence by the individual may result in improved subject status and economic benefits that include reduced costs associated with rehospitalization after discharge.
