The present invention relates to environmental conditions, together with other information, which are used to adjust an answer of a conversation dialogue system. Environmental conditions may be used at different times within the conversation dialogue system. For example, environmental conditions can be used to adjust the dialog manager output (for example, machine action). The dialog state information that is used by the dialog manager includes environmental conditions for the current shift in the dialog as well as environmental conditions for one or more past shifts in the dialog. Environmental conditions can also be used after receiving machine action to adjust the response that is provided to the user.
