The present invention relates to a conversion process that provides the use of different cocultivated cell lines to express different sets of enzymes that catalyze the same process. For example, in a simultaneous saccharification and cofermentation (sscf) process, a starch substrate is converted to alcohol by contacting the substrate with yeast and aspergillus niger cells. due to the fact that a. niger expresses an endogenous glycoamylase and an endogenous alpha-amylase, these enzymes do not need to be added during the sscf process.
