The present invention relates to pyrrolpyridine compounds of formula (i) (i) or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof which may be suitable for imaging tau aggregates, ß-leaf aggregates, beta-amyloid aggregates or alpha-aggregates. synuclein, and therefore are used in the binding and imaging of tau aggregates in alzheimer patients. More specifically, this invention relates to a method of using the compounds of this invention as markers in positron emission tomography (pet) imaging to study brain tau deposits in vivo to allow the diagnosis of alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases characterized by pathology associated with tau. The invention further relates to a method for assessing the clinical efficacy of therapeutic agents for alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases characterized by tau-associated pathology.
