A sensor can be fabricated by printing a working electrode onto a substrate using aerosol jet printing. Chemical sensing (eg, enzyme-based ink that includes chemical detection) can also be printed on the working electrode by aerosol jet printing. A reference electrode may also be printed on the substrate at a spaced position along the substrate from the working electrode. In certain instances, the substrate may be positioned within a lumen of a skin piercing element of a sensor module.
