Techniques for wireless communication are described. A method for wireless communication includes identifying a frame structure for transmissions using an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band, the frame structure including at least two special subframes; and performing a procedure for gaining access to the unlicensed radio spectrum band for at least a portion of at least one of at least two special subframes.
