The sulfur tolerant noble metal containing catalyst for hydrogenation of aromatics and a method of producing and using such catalyst. It is a composition of catalyst for hydrogenation of aromatic component which comprises a noble metal and a support comprising zirconia, silica, and, optionally, alumina.The composition of catalyst is manufactured co grinding silica, a zirconium compound, and, optionally, alumina to form a mixture that is formed into a form, such as by extrusion to form an extruded with the form being calcined and the noble metal being incorporated into the shape. The composition of the catalyst can be used in the saturation of aromatic compounds.
