The method allows to efficiently increase the signal of antibodies recognizing 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine and / or 5-chloro-2'-deoxyuridine and / or 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine in DNA at the sites of incorporation of these nucleosides into DNA for DNase 1 or DNase 1 and exonuclease III. The method consists in incubating samples after treatment with DNase 1 or DNase I and exonuclease III and the antibody in formaldehyde solution and is useful both when two antibody-based systems are used as well as antibody-based systems conjugated to various agents such as fluorochromes.
