A method of producing integral components based on expanded polystyrene with built-in functional and/or decorative elements

The method of producing integral components lies in the fact that the mould is filled with the decorative and/or functional elements, whose contact surface disposed within the mould is in advance provided with an adhesive coating from a liquid prepolymer based on polyesters or polyether urethanes, based on butadiene and styrene, butadiene and acrylonitrile and/or a prepolymer based on other monomers containing terminal NCO groups in an amount of 0.7 to 3.0 weight parts, preferably 1.2 to 2.2% weight parts per 100 weight parts of prepolymer; the remaining mould space is filled with pre-foamed expanded polystyrene beads, and the product prepared this way is treated with water from saturated water vapour, thus forming a base of expanded polystyrene from the pre-foamed beads and, at the same time, a solid polymer is formed at the interface of the base and the functional and/or decorative element by the action of water on the terminal NCO group of the adhesive coating from the liquid prepolymer. The NCO groups of the prepolymer are, prior to being applied on the bonded surface, preferably masked by the addition of amino or nitro compounds, such as caprolactam, secondary amines, compounds with a phenolic nucleus, optionally by the addition of other masking agents capable of releasing NCO groups at an elevated temperature.
