A discontinuous centrifuge for solid-liquid separation of a crystal suspension has a centrifuge drum (2) into which the crystal suspension can be filled as a predefined amount of a filling material, and which can be rotationally driven by a drive unit (11, 12) at least in one first acceleration phase and in a second acceleration phase after the first acceleration phase, a washing fluid addition unit (19, 20) having a control valve (23, 24) via which a washing fluid can be added to the centrifugal drum (2) for washing the filling material, a detection unit (14) with which a first quotient can be detected in real time at an anterior operation point in the first acceleration phase from the current torque and from the current rotational acceleration of the centrifuge drum, and with which a second quotient can be detected in real time at a subsequent rear operating point in the second acceleration phase from the current torque and from the current rotational acceleration of the centrifuge drum, and a control unit (17) with which the control valve (23, 24) can be controlled, such that the control valve is set in a throttle position as soon as the relationship between the first quotient to the second quotient is smaller than a predetermined threshold value at the rear operating point, so that the addition of the washing fluid to the centrifuge drum (2) can be reduced.
