The invention is related to microbiological industry and biotechnology, in particular, to production of biological insecticides for agriculture based on a new strain of the nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) pathogenic for larvae of cotton budworm that is a dangerous pest for cotton and many other cultural plants. The technical result is production of a new nuclear polyhedrosis virus strain having higher antiviral activity in respect of the cotton budworm. Said technical result is attained by creation of XC-18 strain of Helicoverpa armigera Hbn budworm nuclear polyhedrosis virus deposited in State Rospotrebnadzor collection of agents of infectious rickettcial diseases in FBUN GNTs VB "Vector" the strain having registration number V-607 and used for production of an insecticide preparation. XC-18 strain contains unique marker traits for identification obtained as a result of analysis of genome nucleotide sequence of said XC-18 strain and related to the following nucleotide in the region of Orf119-like protein: 9/C; 50/G; 58/A; 64/A; 104/G; 117/C; 133/A; 138/G; 176/T; 210/G; 282/T; 289/C; 384/C; 444/T; 462/C, where the number of the nucleotide is in the numerator and the name of the nucleotide is the denominator. An insecticide preparation for cotton budworm control comprising an active ingredient based on a nuclear polyhedrosis virus strain, target additives and water. As the active ingredient, the preparation contains dry concentrate of Helicoverpa armigera Hbn budworm nuclear polyhedrosis virus strain number V-607 according to claim 1, and as target additives, it contains glycerol and zeolite.
