The present invention provides a unit capacity autonomous door-to-door rail-based public or private smart transportation system for both passengers and goods. The system comprises a plurality of unit capacity capsules configured for carrying passengers and goods on a guideway and a modular transportation management module for managing planning and routing of the plurality of the unit capsules. The capsule body is fitted with a hardware processor, a wheel assembly located at or near the center of gravity point of the capsule, and the capsule includes a hot redundancy to prevent a single-step failure of operation of the capsule in the guideway, and wherein the guideway includes raised rails.
