TITLE: A SELF RETAINING LINGUAL FLAP GUARDING DEVICE FOR EXTRACTION OF MANDIBULAR LOWER THIRD MOLARS APPLICANT: SRI BALAJI VIDYAPEETH APPLICATION NUMBER: 5833/CHE/2015 dated 29/10/2015 ABSTRACT The present invention discloses an universal self retaining lingual flap guarding device for extraction of mandibular lower third molars. The device comprises of lingual arm[A], buccal arm[B], lingual plate[E], buccal plate[F], hinge[D] and reverse action clamp[C]. The lingual plate[E] is fixed to top end of the said lingual arm[A]. The buccal plate[F] is fixed to top end of the said buccal arm[B]. The lingual arm[A] and the said buccal arm[B] are in scissor-like configuration extending transversely there through and converging towards each other. The hinge[D] connects bottom ends of the lingual arm[A] and buccal arm[B] to the reverse action clamp[C]. The reverse action clamps[C] having spring action moves the lingual arm[A] and the said buccal arm[B] in scissor like action. The device of the present invention is self- retaining with a lingual plate[E] which is blunt thin and it can be applied after reflecting the lingual flap. The buccal arm[B] is for retention .The retractor opens in a reverse action and rests over the occlusal surface of the teeth without obstructing the view of the surgeon. .
