A variable power system for a crank operated system like a bicycle, tricycle etc. crank herein referred to as bicycle while keeping the cost and the complexity of the system in check. The current available solutions either use an engine, an electrically driven motor or a complex gear ratio system to accomplish this task. These solutions are expensive and require a certain amount of upkeep which increases expense and· maintenance. This invention uses a variable crank.arm instead of the normal fixed length crank arm and delivers a variable speed device which requires no upkeep, is cheap and easy to use or repa1r. The variable crank arm allows the user to change its length easily, this increase or decrease in length causes the drive crank sprocket wheel to gain power or speed. Hence the advantages of a variable gear ratio system as in a bi-cycle, to some extent, ·are gained while its disadvantages are overcome.
