A NOVEL FRACTIONATING HYDROLYSIS PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF FERMENTABLE SUGARS FROM LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS OF KANS GRASS (SACCHARUM SPONTANEUM)

The present invention provides a process for fractionating a model lignocellulosic biomass, Saccharum spontaneum into two primary carbohydrate (xylose and glucose) fractions. In the present invention, pentose and hexose sugar fractions are obtained separately in single vessel· multi-step hydrolysis process from lignocellulosic biomass. A novel processing configuration is used to apply various acid concentrations ranging from 1 to 30% with continuous steam insertion to the vessel (specially designed glass· column); minimizes the generation of inhibitory degradation products. The recovery of total reducing sugars is ca. 95.3% with ca.99% xylose.
