ABSTRACT The mechanical properties of composite material based on steel and kenaf fiber are considered for various applications like automotive, industrial, defense sector etc. This invention describes the development of steel and kenaf sandwich composite using steel slag core which is fabricated by hand layup method with the utilization of micro balloons and steel slag. The development of composite material includes Super Duplex Stainless Steel, Kenaf Natural Fiber, Super Duplex Stainless Steel, Glass micro-balloons, Araldite Hard Epoxy Resin and Steel Slag. Binding of the materials were done by hard araldite mixture (epoxy resin AW 103 and hardener HY 953 IN).The development of steel and kenaf sandwich composite includes tensile test, three point flexuralbending test and impact test. The test results indicate that the proposed sandwich composite material has high mechanical strength and can withstand larger force. The mechanical properties the sandwich composite is more enhanced than the normal stainless steel. The impact strength of sandwich composite is more excessive than the other rolled homogeneous armour steels (Eg. Ramor, Armox).
