A method of managing a new uplink (UL) grant to a mobile communication device includes: receiving a new UL grant from a first communication network for a first radio access technology (RAT); determining whether the new UL grant was received during a pre tune away phase to a second communication network for a second RAT; and inhibiting uplinking of first RAT data to the first communication network during the pre tune away phase in response to the new UL grant if the new UL grant was received during the pre tune away phase.
