The invention relates to the method to be followed in order to devise proficiency tests, also known as interlaboratory proficiency tests, which are used to assess the technical competence of accredited laboratories or laboratories undergoing accreditation in identifying the general rifling characteristics (GRC) of fired bullets and spent shells from firearms, said tests employing samples of bullets and shells obtained from duly registered firearms, and designed and checked to guarantee the origin thereof in the application of proficiency tests. The methods described in the present invention disclose which technical characteristics should be questioned and assessed in the course of proficiency testing in order to obtain an objective evaluation of the competence of laboratories undergoing proficiency testing in identifying the general rifling characteristics (GRC) of fired bullets and spent shells from firearms.
