A system (1) for forming a flame retardant connection between a wall (2) and another structural element (3) comprising a steel U-profile (4) adapted to receive an edge portion (5) of the wall , as well as a strip (6) of fire retardant material, interposed between the inner side (7) of the U-profile and the wall. The strip of flame retardant material and the U-profile can be affixed loosely to the U-profile or fixed to the inside of the U-profile. The strip of fire retardant material comprises substantially rock wool (8) surrounded by a film (9) of thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic with flame retardant additives.
