A maternal composition comprising, with respect to the total fatty acid concentration, more than 50 wt pcnt of long chain fatty acids and 50 wt pcnt or less of medium chain fatty acids, for use to treat or prevent acid reflux, nausea or vomiting, gestational diabetes mellitus, and/or a condition associated with any of the foregoing in a pregnant subject and/or its offspring, wherein said maternal composition is administered to a mammal before and/or during pregnancy and/or during lactation.
