Method for the in vitro diagnosis of the degree of mental weakness in Down syndrome

Disclosed is a method for the in vitro diagnosis of the degree of mental impairment associated with Down syndrome (DS) in brain tissue samples, characterized in that the present amount of dopamine receptor 1 complex (DR1 complex) is determined and compared with that in a control tissue sample present amount obtained from an individual who does not suffer from the DS wherein a reduced amount of DR1 complex correlates with the degree of mental disability.
