Methods of using micro-RNA body fluids for the diagnosis and control of mild cognitive impairment

A method for diagnosing a neurodegenerative disease in a subject, wherein the neurodegenerative disease is mild cognitive impairment, said method comprising: a. determining the level of a small RNA synapses or neurites in a body fluid sample of the subject, wherein the body fluid is selected from the group consisting of blood plasma, serum, urine and saliva, and wherein small RNA synapses or neurites is an miRNA selected from the group consisting of miR-7, miR-125b, miR-128, miR-132, miR-134, miR-323-3p, and miR-874; b. determining the level of a small RNA from the same sample of body fluid from the subject, wherein the small RNA is an miRNA that is not expressed in the brain or an miRNA selected from the group consisting of miR-181a, miR-491-5p , miR-10b and miR-141; c. determining the ratio of levels of specific RNA in small steps (a) and (b); d. comparing the ratio of the levels of specific small RNA in step (c) with a ratio corresponding control, and e. (I) identify the subject to be affected by the neurodegenerative disease when the ratio of the levels of specific small RNA in step (c) is greater than the ratio corresponding control or (ii) identify the subject by being unaffected by neurodegenerative disease when the ratio of the levels of specific small RNA in step (c) is not greater than the ratio corresponding control.
