Mutations in SF3B1 and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

An in vitro method of predicting a subject with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), comprising: (a) determining the sequence of a part of the SF3B1 gene in a biological sample obtained from the subject, where the part of the SF3B1 gene comprises a sequence encoding a HEAT3, HEAT4 or HEAT5 domain; and (b) analyze the sequence of the SF3B1 gene for a mutation, where the presence of the mutation in the SF3B1 gene sequence predicts a decrease in the survival of the subject, thus predicting the subject with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). .
