A lactate nanosensor based on the Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) technique CHARACTERIZED because it comprises a bacterial transcription factor, LldR, sandwiched between any suitable donor and acceptor fluorescent protein fragments that are capable, in combination, of serving as donor and acceptor fragments of FRET, which can be expressed in individual cells or cell populations, adherent or suspended cells, in a cell culture, a tissue culture, a mixed cell culture in a tissue explant.
