A radiopaque, non-biodegradable and water insoluble poly (vinyl alcohol) benzyl ether (iodobenzyl ether-PVA) consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol having covalently grafted onto the same iodinated benzyl groups comprising 1-4 atoms of iodine per benzyl group.
