A fiber optic network (210), comprising: a shunt cable (20) having a plurality of optical fibers (F1-F12) optically adapted to be optically coupled to a distribution cable (12); and characterized by a first optical connection terminal (418) adapted to receive a first segment of the branch cable (20), wherein the first optical connection terminal (418) comprises a first plurality of ports (28, 32) and in wherein the first optical connection terminal (418) is configured in such a way that the defaults of the first plurality of ports (28, 32) comprise one or more of a first down port (28) that can be operated to optically couple a respective first predetermined of the plurality of optical fibers to a first drop cable (24), and a first pass-through port (32) that can be operated to optically couple a respective second predetermined of the plurality of optical fibers to a second branch cable segment (20) external to the first optical connection terminal (418); and a second optical connection terminal (318) adapted to receive the second segment of the branch cable (20), wherein the second optical connection terminal (318) comprises a second plurality of ports (28, 32) and is configured as such that a predetermined second plurality of ports (28, 32) comprises a second drop port (28) that can be operated to optically couple the respective second predetermined plurality of optical fibers to a second drop cable (24 ), wherein the first optical connection terminal (418) comprises a first splitter (42) configured to divide an optical signal carried by one of the plurality of optical fibers into a plurality of optical signals each carried by one of a plurality of first split optical fibers, wherein the first down port (28) can be operated to optically couple the respective first predetermined plurality of fibers or optical through one of the plurality of first optical fibers divided to the first drop cable (24), the first optical connection terminal (418) further comprises a second splitter (44) configured to divide an optical signal carried by one of the plurality of the first optical fibers divided into a plurality of optical signals each carried by one of a plurality of second divided optical fibers, wherein the first descent port (28) can also be operated to optically couple the respective first predetermined of the plurality of optical fibers through the plurality of second optical fibers divided to the first drop cable (24), the second optical connection terminal (318) comprises a third splitter (40) configured to divide an optical signal carried by the second predetermined respective of the plurality of optical fibers in a plurality of optical signals each carried by one of a plurality of third divided optical fibers, wherein the second down port (28) can be operated to optically couple the respective second predetermined of the plurality of optical fibers to the second down cable (24) through one of the plurality of third fibers split optics.
